MILLEVELE IREN 2026: 217 BOATS FILL THE GULF OF GENOA WITH COLOR
Genoa, September 12, 2026 – At 11:00 a.m., the firing of the starting cannon marked the beginning of the 38th edition of the Millevele IREN, the major sailing event organized by the Yacht Club Italiano, which once again filled the Gulf of Genoa with sails.
A total of 217 boats took part in the event, divided into three groups according to length:
- Yellow Group: up to 11 metres
- Green Group: from 11 to 18 metres
- Red Group: over 18 metres
The day was characterized by changing weather conditions as the crews sailed their coastal courses through the Gulf of Genoa. At the start, the fleet was greeted by a northerly Tramontana breeze of around 12 knots, allowing the more than 200 boats to quickly head eastward.
As the fleet approached the marks positioned towards Punta Chiappa, the northerly wind gradually eased, giving way to a period of light air. A westerly breeze then began to fill in, accompanying the fleet back towards Genoa, before the wind shifted once again to the north near the finish line off Boccadasse.
The first boats to cross the finish line in each of the three groups were:
- Melges 24 Melgina, owned by Paolo Brescia (Yacht Club Italiano), in the Yellow Group
- Swan 45 Blu Sky, owned by Claudio Terrieri (Yacht Club Monfalcone), in the Green Group
- Frers 60 Moonshine, owned by Stefano Brunello (Yacht Club Cortina d'Ampezzo), in the Red Group
The President of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, also took part in the Millevele IREN, sailing aboard his GS 52 Frally.
The celebrations continue this evening at the Yacht Club Italiano with the Crew Party, dedicated to all participating crews.
The Millevele IREN 2026 awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m., during the 66th Genoa International Boat Show, where the winners of the various categories and the special challenges within the event that characterized this 38th edition will be presented with their awards.
