The second event of the International Genoa Winter Contest concluded today with the stage dedicated to the ILCA classes. Across the two race weekends — the first reserved for the Optimist class and the most recent one dedicated to the ILCA classes — nearly 200 young sailors took to the water overall.
During the past weekend, 45 sailors competed in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes. High-pressure conditions ensured a southeasterly Scirocco breeze, with around 6 knots on Saturday and 11 knots on Sunday, on the racecourse set off Boccadasse.
The Race Committee successfully completed two races on Saturday and three on Sunday, for a total of five races overall, allowing the discard to be applied in all classes.
In the ILCA 7 class, Yacht Club Italiano sailor Dario Burlando claimed overall victory thanks to four first-place finishes and a discarded second place. Thomas Guaitolini finished second and Alessio Cindolo third, both representing Yacht Club Italiano.
In the largest fleet, the ILCA 6 class, victory went to Edoardo Volante of Club Nautico Varazze with scores of (1, 1, 2, 3, 1). Second overall and first female was Marta Sciutto of Circolo Nautico Albenga, while third place went to Lorenzo Sorrenti, also from Club Nautico Varazze.
Among the youngest sailors in the ILCA 4 class, Leonardo Moscatelli of Yacht Club Italiano secured victory with an almost perfect scoreline (1, 2, 1, 1, 1). Second overall and first female was Ester Lucia De Palma, also representing YCI, while third place went to Lorenzo Redaelli of Lega Navale Italiana – Santa Margherita Ligure.
The International Genoa Winter Contest once again confirmed its role as a highly valuable technical event within the winter sailing calendar, offering competitive racing at a high sporting level on a racecourse that provides ideal conditions at this time of year.
The next event for Yacht Club Italiano will be the Optimist Interzonal Selection, scheduled to take place in Genoa from March 20 to 22, dedicated to young sailors from FIV Zones I, XIV and XV.
