Matteo Iachino, born in Savona in 1989, is one of the greatest Italian exponents of modern windsurfing and a leading figure on the international scene. Racing in the colours of the Yacht Club Italiano, he represents the Club on racecourses all over the world, embodying the values of sporting excellence, determination and a deep bond with the sea.
Having taken up windsurfing at a young age, Matteo built a career of the highest level on the professional world circuit. He was the first Italian athlete to win a world title in the PWA circuit, opening a new era for Italian windsurfing. Over the course of his career he has claimed four world titles, the most recent in 2025, and finished six times as runner-up in the world rankings, achievements that place him among the most successful and consistent athletes in the history of the discipline.
Matteo is not only a champion in traditional competitions: his desire to push beyond his limits has led him to accomplish epic endurance feats, including the windsurf crossing from Liguria to Corsica and the spectacular nearly 200-mile crossing from Olbia to Livorno, completed in under ten hours with an average speed of around 20 knots and peaks of almost 35 knots.
A complete athlete and an ambassador of the values of sport, sustainability and respect for the marine environment, Matteo represents a great source of pride for the Yacht Club Italiano and an example for new generations.
