This Morning, the Sea of Genoa Was Colored by 204 Sails for the 36th Edition of the Millevele IREN Regatta.
At 11 a.m. today, the XXL fleet crossed the starting line off Vernazzola for the 36th edition of Millevele IREN. The wind accompanied the entire racecourse with an intensity between 6 and 10 knots, initially blowing from the North and then shifting to the East during the second half of the route.
“A wonderful sailing day,” commented Carlo Cameli, President of the Yacht Club Italiano, who was on the water aboard his Blue Indy. “After a few years of bad weather, today felt like being inside a postcard—we couldn’t have asked for more: Genoa and the Boat Show as the perfect backdrop, hundreds of sails, steady wind, and flat seas. We’re very happy with how this edition turned out. We look forward to seeing everyone at tonight’s Crew Party and tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. for the award ceremony at the Genoa International Boat Show, where we’ll celebrate together!”
On the water:
- In Group A (Red), for boats over 18 meters, victory went to Atalanta II, owned by Carlo Puri Negri, who welcomed the Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, on board for the occasion.
- In the Green Group (boats from 11 to 18 meters), first place went to the Stream 40 Jack Sparrow of Fabio Caroli.
- In the Yellow Group (under 11 meters), the Archambault M34 Manida of Fabio Iorio won, completing the course in just under 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The Millevele IREN continues this evening with the Crew Party at the Yacht Club Italiano’s docks, ready to welcome over 1,000 sailors. At 6:30 p.m., there will also be the awards ceremony for the Iren Utility Cup, which saw 29 boats compete, followed by an open celebration for all participants.
Tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., the Millevele IREN will conclude with the Grand Finale and Award Ceremony on the terrace of the Jean Nouvel Pavilion at the Genoa International Boat Show.
