Excellent results for our colors at the opening event of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2026, held in Opatija.
Our Member Paolo Brescia was the standout performer, taking overall victory with MELGINA after eight closely contested races. He finished tied on points with the second-placed boat, securing the win thanks to a better discard result. A success achieved in challenging conditions, with light and unstable winds and early morning starts to make the most of the best weather windows.
“Honestly, we didn’t expect to win. The level was very high and the competition extremely strong. Finishing tied on points shows just how close it was: we were probably a bit lucky too, but that’s part of the sport,” commented Paolo Brescia at the end of the regatta.
Also worth highlighting is the third place overall — and first in the Corinthian category — for TAKI 4, owned by our Member Giacomo Fossati, with our Sporting Director Pietro Seghezza on board. A significant result that confirms the excellent level expressed by our Members also within the non-professional fleet.
The regatta, held over three days and marked by a very tight leaderboard, was only decided in the final race, further underlining the high technical level of the international fleet.
A very positive start to the season for our Members, who immediately stand out at the top of the Melges 24 class.
