The third stage of the 420 Class Italian Cup has concluded in Livorno, serving as a national selection event for the allocation of spots at the upcoming World and European Championships, scheduled to take place in Biscarrosse, France, and Nida, Lithuania, respectively.
Held as part of the Settimana Velica Internazionale – Accademia Navale, the event brought together 102 crews and confirmed the strong level of our athletes, who secured three spots for the World Championship and one for the European Championship.
A standout performance came from the Postiglione – Vulcanile crew, who topped the U17 rankings and achieved an excellent eighth place overall, continuing their consistent results after two second-place finishes in the previous stages. The regatta series included a total of ten races, held in variable weather conditions, with unstable offshore winds on the opening day, shifting northwesterlies during the central days, and light southerly winds in the final race.
Also delivering a solid performance was the Donà – Perazzi crew, who finished in twenty-first place, affected by two less favorable races.
With this stage, the national ranking series—comprising a total of 32 races—comes to a close, determining the crews qualified for the main international events. Our crews Postiglione – Vulcanile, Donà – Perazzi, and Canonici – Trillo have qualified for the World Championship, while Postiglione – Vulcanile have also secured a place at the European Championship.
The next event will be the Coppa Uniqua in Cesenatico, scheduled for early June, a key opportunity to secure the final available spots.
