After an intense week in the Gulf of Trieste, marked by extremely variable weather conditions and seven races completed, the Melges 24 World Championship has come to an end, with 71 crews from 16 nations competing in the Open and Corinthian divisions.
In the Open division, Melgina, owned by our Member Paolo Brescia – with Filippo Vulcanile, Matija Succi, Stefano Cherin and Jas Farneti on board – fought until the very last race, finishing just one point away from the podium after clinching a brilliant victory in the penultimate regatta. Third place went to the home team Strambapapà, helmed by Michele Paoletti.
In the Corinthian category, noteworthy is the seventh-place finish of Taki 4, owned by Member Giacomo Fossati (with Niccolò Bertola, Marco Zammarchi, Giovanni Bannetta and Lorenzo Di Carlo), usually among the podium regulars, but this time set back by a DNF and a DNC on the opening day.
Congratulations to all our sporting Members for flying the Club’s burgee high in such a top-level World Championship!
