The 73rd Loro Piana Giraglia, organised by Yacht Club Italiano in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, concluded in Genoa after a week of racing that saw 145 yachts compete in the Saint-Tropez inshore series and the historic 241-nautical-mile offshore race to Genoa. It was an edition that delivered spectacular racing and outstanding performances from Yacht Club Italiano members, who featured prominently across several classifications.
Atalanta II Dominates Maxi B
Among the standout performers at the 73rd Loro Piana Giraglia was Club member Carlo Puri Negri, whose Farr/Felci 70 Atalanta II delivered an exceptional series of results. During the Saint-Tropez inshore races, Atalanta II won all five races in the IRC Maxi B class, securing the overall Inshore title in commanding fashion. Capping off a perfect week, the yacht also claimed victory in the combined IRC Maxi B classification (Inshore & Offshore), confirming both the boat and her crew among the leading protagonists of the 2026 Loro Piana Giraglia.
RocketNikka Runner-Up in the IRC Offshore Ranking
Another excellent result came from Club member Roberto Lacorte, whose wallyrocket51 RocketNikka finished second overall in the IRC Offshore classification. Also on board was Yacht Club Italiano member Alessio Razeto, Team Manager of the project, contributing to a prestigious result in one of the event's most competitive classes.
Chestress Narrowly Misses Victory in ORC 2 Inshore Racing
Club member Giorgio Anserini's J/109 Chestress also enjoyed an outstanding regatta, finishing second in the ORC 2 Inshore classification on equal points with the winner, Fremito D'Arja. It was a closely fought contest that went down to the final race, with Chestress remaining among the front-runners throughout the week.
Double Podium Finish in IRC Maxi A Combined Classification
Yacht Club Italiano members claimed two of the three podium places in the combined IRC Maxi A classification (Inshore & Offshore). Pier Luigi Loro Piana, helming the ClubSwan 80 My Song, finished second overall, while Alessandro Del Bono secured third place aboard the JV80 Capricorno.
ELO II: The Future of Offshore Sailing
Among the most significant achievements of the 2026 edition was the performance of ELO II, Yacht Club Italiano's programme dedicated to developing young offshore sailors under the leadership of Tommaso Chieffi. The team recorded an excellent fourth place in the ORC 1 Inshore classification and matched that result with fourth place in the combined ORC 1 standings (Inshore & Offshore), underlining the strength of a project that continues to invest in youth development and the transfer of experience to the next generation.
As the 73rd Loro Piana Giraglia comes to a close, Yacht Club Italiano also extends its heartfelt thanks to the entire Club staff, whose professionalism, expertise and dedication over many months made the organisation of one of the Mediterranean's most prestigious regattas possible. Their commitment, together with the invaluable contribution of volunteers, race officials, partners and collaborators, ensured another successful edition worthy of the event's long-standing tradition.
The countdown has already begun for the 74th Loro Piana Giraglia, which will take place from 11 to 19 June 2027.
