Mirage WingFoil Race
An excellent debut for our WingFoil racing team at the regatta held over the weekend of March 28–29 in the Gulf of Albissola, organized by the Mirage Windsurfing Club in collaboration with the Italian Naval League of Savona.
The two race days offered very different weather conditions, testing both the participants’ skills and the on-water organization. Saturday was marked by unstable winds, with frequent shifts in direction that required repeated course adjustments, until a steady westerly breeze of 15 to 18 knots set in, allowing six regular and closely contested races to be completed.
On Sunday, conditions changed dramatically with the arrival of a strong tramontana wind reaching up to 30 knots. These demanding conditions made the races particularly technical and physically challenging. Despite the strong wind, the Race Committee successfully completed six more races, bringing the total to twelve over the weekend.
At the end of the regatta, and taking into account the three discard races, the final standings saw our athletes Leonardo Guazzini and Matteo Crovetto take first and second place respectively, while third place went to Marta Monge of Club del Mare ASD.
This regatta marks the first event of the season for the new WingFoil racing team, made up of 10 young sailors who are entering the regatta circuit this year. It is a project the Club strongly believes in, developing alongside the WingFoil school activity. As part of this initiative, the Club will also host a stage of the Italian GP WingFoil Cup on September 19–20.
WingFoil courses are held at the Scuola di Mare, in collaboration with Tramontana Voltri Surf, with the aim of promoting this rapidly growing discipline and creating a sporting pathway for the Club’s young athletes.
