Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam

A great achievement for our athlete Matteo Iachino, who claimed the Slalom X World Championship title at the PWA World Tour in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands—the most prestigious international professional windsurfing circuit.

Competing on the legendary racecourse of Sotavento, renowned for its strong winds and some of the most demanding conditions on the entire tour, Iachino was the standout performer throughout the week. With consistent, commanding performances, he built a solid lead heading into the final day of competition.

To secure the world title, he only needed to finish among the top six in the day's opening elimination. Based on his outstanding form up to that point, the target seemed well within reach. However, an unexpected early exit before the final reopened the championship battle, allowing defending champion Pierre Mortefon to take the win and forcing the title race into the eleventh and decisive elimination.

The final showdown brought together the two dominant figures of Slalom X in recent years. Under immense pressure, with the world title at stake, Iachino remained calm and composed, sailing a smart and tactical race that earned him second place—more than enough to secure the World Championship.

With this victory, Matteo Iachino claims the fourth PWA World Championship title of his career and his first in the Slalom X discipline, becoming the first athlete ever to dethrone Pierre Mortefon and take the world crown in this class.

This prestigious achievement once again confirms Matteo Iachino as one of the leading figures in international windsurfing and is a source of great pride for the entire Yacht Club Italiano.
