Last weekend in Riva del Garda, after eight races and with five boats separated by just four points going into the final showdown, it was Dark Energy (USA868), skippered by Laura Grondin, that emerged victorious — edging out Razjaren (CRO867), helmed by Ante Cesic and representing reigning European champion Lukasz Podniesinski, thanks to a tie-break.
Just behind them, Melgina (ITA854) by Paolo Brescia, with Simone Ferrarese on tactics, secured third place overall, and with it the title of 2025 Melges 24 Italian Champion.
The event, hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva, featured nearly thirty crews, including some of the most renowned names in international sailing.
Once again, the timeless Reichel-Pugh-designed sportboat proved why, thirty years after its debut, it continues to attract world-class sailors.
Meanwhile, the crew of Melgina — featuring YCI Member and owner-helmsman Paolo Brescia, Member Filippo Vulcanile, Jas Farneti, Matija Succi, and Simone Ferrarese — delivered an outstanding performance, with two race wins and consistent speed throughout the weekend. “It wasn’t easy, but we’re thrilled to have won the Italian title,” said Brescia.
Second place in the Italian Championship went to Taki 4 (ITA778), owned by YCI Member Giacomo Fossati, who also topped the Corinthian division.
The Melges 24 European Sailing Series continues with its fourth event in Struer, Denmark, from June 20 to 22.
Now, all eyes turn to the highlight of the season: the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship, to be held in Trieste, from September 20 to 27, hosted by the Yacht Club Adriaco.
