On Thursday, May 14, at the Yacht Club Italiano headquarters, one of the most significant volumes ever produced on the America's Cup — from its origins to the present day — was unveiled in a world preview.
More than 80 guests attended the event, which featured welcome speeches by Vice Presidents Gregorio Gavarone and Nicolò Caffarena, as well as contributions from Olivia Taschen (CEO of the German publishing house), British designer Marc Newson (creator of the carbon-fiber bookstand), journalist Pino Allievi (editorial director of the project), and renowned photographer Carlo Borlenghi, the photo editor.
The 500-page book recounts the 173-year history of the America's Cup, with contributions from a dozen authors, an extraordinary gallery of photographs, and a graphic design by Marc Newson.
There will be three different editions:
The first, a special Art Edition, includes a carbon-fiber stand designed by Newson, reminiscent of a sailing yacht's keel. It will be limited to just 250 copies and offered at a collector's price.
Next, a limited edition of 1,000 copies.
Finally, a more accessible “pop” version, both in format and price, which will arrive in bookstores in the coming weeks.
