PORTOFINO

Portofino is a fishing village with typical Ligurian houses painted in pastel colours, exclusive boutiques and restaurants specialising in fish, all overlooking the famous cobbled “Piazzetta” that dominates the tiny harbour where various boats are moored.  It is the desire of all sea lovers to moor their boats, anything from a little fishing boat to a maxi motor or sailing boat.  A footpath from the Piazzetta takes you to the Castello Brown, a 16th century fortress with its museum where from time to time art exhibitions take place.  It is a panoramic place overlooking Portofino and the Ligurian sea.

Portofino is a unique place among the many touristic locations in the Mediterranean.

SANTA MARGHERITA LIGURE

Santa Margherita Ligure in the heart of the Ligurian Riviera, home of the “dolce vita” is a little seaside town with typical features of  Ligurian coastal villages: the little harbour, an ancient fishing fleet and a fish market, ancient villas and castles, three sanctuaries and a monumental cemetery, marble statues and stone churchyards and typical Genoese architecture with its colourful frescoed facades.

Renowned for its vibrant life, with  numerous public events and lively bars and restaurants, Santa Margherita is located between two extraordinary natural reserves : the Parco di  Portofino (with 80km of pathways) and the Portofino Area Marina Protetta (with a wonderful seabed and the possibility of scuba diving all year round) offers a spectacular atmosphere, perfect for walking, photography and activities in the open air.

The cultural centre is the Villa Durazzo Museum, a splendid 17th century mansion house, today property of the Municipality, with statues, fountains, paintings and   a garden listed  in the “Grandi Giardini Italiani ”.

A gastronomic food speciality is the “Santa Margherita prawn”, a kind of red or purple prawn that can only be fished here and has been officially recognized by De.co.
