The Yacht Club Italiano website has added a weather section. Internet provides access to a vast amount of data and information that were only available to operators in the meteorological sector until recent years. This section, which is maintained and edited by the Sea School with the collaboration of Navimeteo, is designed to provide a selection of sites that we consider to be official, and hence reliable. We use this information to build up an overall impression of the situation on a large scale, before analysing the local marine weather conditions in detail. The important thing for anyone wishing to understand marine weather conditions is to pose simple questions in order to obtain easy, uncomplicated answers. Meteorological navigation involves plotting a course based on current and forecasted weather conditions. The shortest course is not necessarily the best or the safest, and the same applies to the nearest shelter. It is necessary to take a wide range of factors into consideration, in particular one’s experience, the craft, and the quality of the crew. The Yacht Club Italiano /Sea School weather section will expand from its current, simple format to provide increasingly interesting content. The aim is to provide a series of charts and suggestions that will permit visitors to acquire useful information, which they will be able to follow up by attending one of the practical courses we will be organising together with Navimeteo over the course of the year.
